Future Communities

Future Communities
People today enjoy greater freedom from the constraints of traditional, close-knit communities, but they are also more vulnerable to the problems that come with isolation. Yet not everyone wants to return to the social ties of the past. Rather than rushing to solve these problems, this exhibition presents forty short fragments that invite us to contemplate how the future might be otherwise. Part 1 invites us to explore imagined futures—not predictions of what will happen or visions of what should happen. Part 2 invites us to imagine what loneliness might look like in the future. Part 3 explores what communities might be like if they included nonhuman beings. Part 4 imagines different ways people might find happiness.
